Phyllis Hui Sun (손혜덕/孫慧徳/孙慧徳) is a distinguished artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she cultivates her creative vision from her private studio. Born in Busan, South Korea, her artistic journey is profoundly influenced by a rich multicultural background, shaped by her education in South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States. She earned a BFA from National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) in Taipei, Taiwan, a top art college with a highly competitive 1% acceptance rate, and further pursued advanced studies in abstract art at California College of the Arts (CCA) in Oakland. This rigorous academic foundation solidified her dedication to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.

Phyllis’ work delves into the exploration of identity, space, and form, primarily through acrylic paintings. Her geometric compositions, characterized by varying colors and widths, evoke a dynamic sense of rhythm that captivates the viewer. The subtle, low-saturation hues she employs create harmonious and lyrical arrangements that exude a tranquil, peaceful energy, establishing a strong, immediate connection with the viewer. Beyond acrylics, her artistic exploration extends to mixed media, including charcoal, ink, paper, and digital photography, reflecting a continuous drive to expand artistic possibilities.

Phyllis’ artistic journey has been marked by significant milestones, including participation in the City of Palo Alto Art Residency Studio Program at Cubberley and Silicon Valley Open Studios, as well as exhibitions in the United States and internationally. Her work continues to captivate and inspire, inviting reflection and dialogue through its balance of form and color.
